Music Festivals : Packing And Preparation

Going to a weekend music festivals is an experience everyone should make sure they achieve at some point in their lives. Standing in the freezing cold, or boiling heat with some of your closest friends, listening to your favorite band playing live just meters from where you stand is something that you will keep with you forever. The thing is, in order to be fully appreciative of this, you must plan what you are going to take with you so that you are fully prepared for any eventuality in the weather.

It is expected that you will be pouring through newspapers and the internet, looking for reliable weather reports for the date of the festival, praying for sunny weather. The thing is, even if it does predict clear skies, you should take precautions just in case. If you do not want to go to the trouble of packing lots of waterproof jackets and trousers, just take a waterproof poncho. This can be carried around with you until the first drops of rain fall, and then unpacked and draped over your warm clothes to keep you dry.

You need to remember to bring some suitable footwear for your adventure. Again, while it may be predicted that the weather will be fine, it would be sensible to pack some boots, especially if the festival is being held in the UK. Another important piece of advice to remember is that breathable footwear is essential, as developing trench foot is very likely if you do not allow your feet to breath in wet weather. There is nothing worse than standing in a cold field shivering because you forgot to pack some warm clothing. Of course you could possibly buy some at the event but it will be extortionately expensive. One thick fleece or jumper is a must, as is a pair of long socks to keep your legs warm.

Alongside remembering to pack the right clothes for the weekend festival, there are some other items that you will be extremely thankful for when sitting in your cold, wet tent in the middle of a field. A torch and a towel would be extremely useful if you ever find yourself wondering around at night and coming back rain soaked to your tent. Many people swear by wet wipes and their ability to cater for so many uses, from cleaning mud out of your ear, to washing your face in the morning. If you can, try to predict how much cash you will need for the event and take it all with you, granted this is not the safest option, but it will mean you do not have to queue up for hours to draw money out in the pouring rain. Do not forget medication either, while there will be a first-aid tent, it will most likely be quite busy and if you need hay fever tablets or paracetamol it may cost you more than you bargained for.
